Over the course of nine days, you will explore this incredibly elegant and vicious weapon from the Age of Enlightenment. This intensive culminates in a Skills Proficiency Test with a Fight Master with the Society of American Fight Directors.

What's a SPT?
The Skills Proficiency Test (SPT) course is designed to provide a student with 30 hours of training in a specific weapon discipline under a Certified Teacher with the Society of American Fight Directors (SAFD). Our classes focus on specific stage combat disciplines with compulsory techniques. We test these required stage combat techniques for safety, theatrical commitment and believability within a dramatic context during the final class's test, which is adjudicated by a SAFD Fight Master.
This SPT includes enough hours to take your test within a very short time period. In order to help our students satisfy the required 30 hours of training with a certified teacher, students must attend all classes!

In lieu of a summer series this year, we've taken inspiration from day camps and going back to school. We're blissfully going back in time to offer Fight Camp! A 6-day course for people who miss being kids that fight with sticks in the summertime, but wanna train like an adult.
What
Fight Camp is a beginner/intermediate level course designed for professional actors wanting to upskill or for adults who are interested in Stage Combat as a hobby.
Each day of Fight Camp includes 3 hours of class, exploring a different weapon and foundational concept of stage combat. At least once during the week there will be an invitation to gather for a meal beforehand.
On the final day, we focus on Community-building wholeheartedly with an open level scene study and celebrate the participants with a short program that showcases their progress from the week. Pending on weather, we'll plan a picnic on Montrose Beach afterwards to keep the community engagement going!

Inside the Gymnasium (with a new gym floor!) of Bethany United Church of Christ, located at 4250 N. Paulina St. Chicago, IL 60613. Street parking is available, but can be tricky to find, so plan accordingly.
When
Camp is six days long! We'll go 6 pm - 9 pm Monday 9/14 through Friday 9/18, and 12:30 - 3:30 pm on Saturday, 9/19, followed by a celebration picnic on nearby Montrose Beach, weather permitting.

It Takes a Village
Get exposure to the process to prepare as a fight director, receive guidelines on how to run a rehearsal, and share/receive peer feedback to better craft the audience's experience. Students will explore fight direction for a scene in The Play That Goes Wrong.

Singlesword Intensive

FIGHT LABS
Fight Lab is a three-hour guided exploration of stage combat topics and principles, taught by OGMA staff and guest artists. A lab is comprised of 2-3 workshops sandwiched between a warm up and cool down. Everyone is a student at Fight Lab! Come on out, train with us and connect with the community. |
