Cultural Competency for Fight Directors
Class Description: Just as the movements techniques for choreographing violence vary across cultures, time periods and regions, so do the stories those moments are intended to tell. This course talks about the different cultural considerations for choreographing violence, including how different cultures would wield different weapons, racialized stereotypes associated with violence choreography, and how to tell culturally competent stories as a Fight Director.
Cost: $60 full tuition OR PWYC for BIPOC students, Neurodivergent students, and students with similar specialities.
Time & Place: Friday, May 2nd, 6-9 pm CST at Bethany United Church of Christ, located at 4250 N. Paulina St. Chicago, IL (street parking is usually available on Paulina and Cullom).
Expectations: Open Level (Professional development, all weapons, fight directing).
Note: this is a highly conversational / engagement learning based course rather than one that gets you on your feet.
Virtual Expectations: You can register via the same form and take this workshop remotely on the same day as in person students. Since this is a discussion based workshop, you can expect to be able to participate fully via a zoom meeting hosted by our coordinator of continuing education.
